The Pittsburgh Penguins have trimmed nine players from their training camp roster ahead of their 2026-27 season opener on September 30 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Six defensemen—David Breazeale, Tyler Duke, Brent Johnson, Ryan Mast, Maleek McGowan, and Broten Sabo—were assigned directly to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Goaltender Taylor Gauthier was placed on waivers with the intention of assigning him to the AHL. Additionally, forward Carter Sanderson was sent to the WHL's Calgary Hitmen, and defenseman Tomas Galvas was loaned to Bili Tygri Liberec in Czechia.
