The Pittsburgh Penguins lost their first game of the 2026-27 season Monday in a sluggish effort.

The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Monday, halting Pittsburgh's 2-0 start to the season. After a scoreless first period, Ben Kindel gave the Penguins the lead in the second frame. The Jets responded in the third period with goals from Alex Iafallo and Adam Lowry, and despite a tying goal from Pittsburgh's Declan Carlile, Cole Perfetti scored the game-winner for Winnipeg just nine seconds later.
Rookie goaltender Sergei Murashov made his season debut for Pittsburgh, keeping the game competitive by stopping 30 of 33 shots. Penguins head coach Dan Muse praised Murashov's performance, particularly during critical stretches late in the first period.
