What the Rangers are trying to do is get back to the playoffs after missing the past two years since a trip to the 2024 Eastern Conference final. Igor Shesterkin’s absence made that a much steeper hill to climb.

The New York Rangers remain confident they can sustain winning despite starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin suffering a season-ending injury against Washington. Head coach Mike Sullivan and captain J.T. Miller emphasized that team identity and defensive commitment will guide the squad through Shesterkin's absence as New York pushes to return to the playoffs after missing the postseason the past two years.
Following Shesterkin's injury, 24-year-old Dylan Garand has stepped into the starting netminder role. While Garand was pulled during a recent 7-1 blowout loss against the New Jersey Devils, he previously posted a 1.15 goals-against average in his first three appearances, with teammates expressing full confidence in his ability to rebound.
