This was the kind of game that puts the big picture in perspective.

The New York Rangers suffered a 4-1 defeat against the Edmonton Oilers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, extending their losing streak to four games. Connor McDavid opened the scoring for Edmonton just 50 seconds into the contest, followed by a goal from Colton Dach just over five minutes later. Evan Bouchard added a power-play goal in the second period, while Pavel Dorofeyev scored for New York.
Rangers rookie goaltender Dylan Garand, playing his 10th consecutive game with Igor Shesterkin sidelined, took personal responsibility for the loss after allowing early goals. New York struggled with penalties and generated only five shots in the opening period, while the Western Conference-leading Oilers improved their road record to 7-0 and 11-2-2 overall on the season.
