Mackie Samoskevich, Jake O’Brien To Open Season On Injured Reserve

The Seattle Kraken have placed forwards Mackie Samoskevich and Jake O’Brien on injured reserve to begin the season. The transaction leaves Seattle with a compliant opening-night roster without requiring additional moves. Samoskevich is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury, while O’Brien is designated as week-to-week due to an ongoing lower-body issue.

Samoskevich was acquired from the Florida Panthers in June and is expected to fill a top-nine role once healthy. O’Brien, selected eighth overall in the 2025 draft, is likely bound for the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds once he recovers. Meanwhile, forward Jacob Melanson and defenseman Ville Ottavainen are positioned on the opening roster.
