St. Louis Blues defenseman Logan Mailloux will miss at least eight weeks after undergoing hand surgery, the team announced Monday. The 23-year-old injured his right hand during a fight with Chicago Blackhawks forward Cole Smith in Saturday's preseason finale. Mailloux, who was projected to feature on the Blues' top defensive pairing alongside Philip Broberg, will begin the regular season on injured reserve alongside fellow defenseman Tyler Tucker.
Blues general manager Alexander Steen confirmed the surgery was successful and that Mailloux will be reevaluated after eight weeks. To cover the defensive absences, St. Louis claimed veteran defenseman Justin Barron off waivers from the Nashville Predators and recalled rookie defenseman Adam Jiricek from AHL affiliate Springfield.
