The San Jose Sharks spoiled the St. Louis Blues' home opener with a 3-2 overtime victory at Enterprise Center on Thursday night. Darnell Nurse scored the game-winning goal just over a minute into overtime to seal the win for San Jose, who played without Macklin Celebrini. Connor McMichael opened the scoring for St. Louis before Tyler Toffoli equalized, and Collin Graf leveled the game again following a shorthanded goal by Dillon Dube.
Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic made 25 saves on 27 shots in his season debut for the Sharks, while Joel Hofer stopped 23 of 26 shots for the Blues. The game also featured a franchise milestone for St. Louis defenseman Colton Parayko, who played in his 804th career game, setting the franchise record for most games played by a defenseman.
