Leafs’ Auston Matthews Reveals Where He Stands With Mitch Marner

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews confirmed that he maintains a strong personal friendship with former teammate Mitch Marner following Marner's trade to the Vegas Golden Knights. Speaking ahead of a matchup against Vegas, Matthews stated that the two frequently keep in touch and that he was pleased to see Marner reach the Stanley Cup Final during his first playoff run with his new club.

The comments follow Marner's revelation of experiencing challenging emotional periods during his final years in Toronto before joining the Golden Knights. Both players have started the 2026-27 campaign strongly, with Matthews tallying six goals in nine games while Marner recorded 11 points across his first 10 appearances.
