The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for heavy upgrades and a couple of trades could be in their future.

The Toronto Maple Leafs could reportedly execute multiple trades ahead of the deadline to bolster their blue line. According to reporter David Pagnotta on Leafs Morning Take, general manager John Chayka is performing due diligence across the NHL to find shutdown defensemen. After an 8-7-2 start to the season, Toronto is heavily exploring trade options to secure a playoff spot.
Pagnotta noted that Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson fits the profile the Maple Leafs desire, though acquiring him would require a steep return. Writer Thomas Williams argues that Toronto cannot afford to wait until the March 1 trade deadline, suggesting the team needs to acquire defensive help immediately to avoid falling out of playoff contention.
