This graphic is pretty funny. It says Auston Matthews needs just 168 goals to pass Wayne Gretzky. Just 168! The way it’s written, you’d think Matthews could knock that off before Christmas.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews scored 436 goals in his first 700 NHL games, placing him sixth on the all-time list at that milestone. NHL Trade Talk highlights that Matthews leads all active skaters through 700 games, edging Alex Ovechkin by three goals and surpassing Steven Stamkos by 70.
Wayne Gretzky leads the list with 589 goals through 700 games, followed by Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy, Brett Hull, and Jari Kurri. NHL Trade Talk argues that despite era differences, Matthews' scoring pace places him among hockey's all-time elite shooters.
