Gavin McKenna had the puck on his stick, looking to make a play in the offensive zone with the Maple Leafs already in a hole.

Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Gavin McKenna was benched during the second period after a costly turnover but bounced back to score in a 4-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Montreal forward Chris Kreider intercepted McKenna's pass to score on a breakaway for a 3-0 Canadiens lead. Toronto launched a third-period push with goals from William Nylander and McKenna, but their comeback attempt ultimately fell short.
The defeat dropped Toronto to an 8-8-2 record, leaving them with four losses in their last five games under head coach Jim Hiller. Adding to the Maple Leafs' troubles, defenseman Morgan Rielly suffered a lower-body injury in the first period and did not return to the game.
