The Toronto Maple Leafs made a big trade move with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday on the eve of the NHL season set to start Tuesday September 29th.
The Toronto Maple Leafs completed a major trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, acquiring forward Kirill Marchenko, forward Miles Wood, and goaltender Elvis Merzlikins. In return, the Maple Leafs sent forwards Matthew Knies and Steven Lorentz, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a 2027 second-round draft pick to Columbus just ahead of the NHL season opener.
Stadium Rant highlights that Marchenko led the Blue Jackets in goals over the past three seasons, recording 81 goals across 233 games. The writer questions whether Marchenko can build chemistry with Auston Matthews and adapt to head coach Craig Berube's system as Toronto looks to rebound from finishing last in the Atlantic Division.
