WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals cited the importance of putting in the work to put their struggles behind them. It wasn't pretty at times on Wednesday, but they did just that for a big two points against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Washington Capitals held on for a 5-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night in Washington. Alex Tuch recorded two goals and an assist, while Jordan Kyrou posted a goal and an assist to lead the Capitals' offense. The duo stepped up to spark the team's newly adjusted forward lines in the absence of Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Justin Holl scored the game-winning goal in the third period, his second tally in as many games following his recent call-up. Ivan Miroshnichenko also scored for Washington, and goaltender Charlie Lindgren stopped 25 of 29 shots to help secure the win despite a late push from Montreal.
