The Australian Jillaroos opened their Rugby League World Cup title defense with a decisive 40-0 victory against Samoa at CommBank Stadium in Sydney. Debutant five-eighth Jocelyn Kelleher was named player of the match after converting six of her seven attempts and setting up two tries.
Jaime Chapman, Julia Robinson, Shaylee Bent, Keely Nizza, Keilee Joseph, and Jess Sergis scored tries as Australia established early dominance. Despite a determined defensive second-half performance by Samoa, coach Jess Skinner's side comfortably secured the win ahead of their next pool match against England in Perth.
