Former Great Britain international Brian Carney stated that a strategic partnership between Super League and the NRL is expected to be agreed this week. Despite the imminent deal, Carney warned that simply partnering with the Australian league will not automatically fix English rugby league without significant financial investment and stronger leadership.
According to reports, the proposed agreement between the RFL and ARLC is slated to formally begin in 2028, with the NRL assisting Super League in securing a broadcast deal for next season. Carney also argued that rugby league in the UK must allocate resources better to support surrounding nations like Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
