Graham Steadman has stepped down as the head coach of Newcastle Thunder, prompting the Championship club to begin a search for his successor. The 64-year-old former Great Britain international leaves the role after guiding Thunder to a historic second-place finish in the Championship and a run to the penultimate stage of the play-offs.
Steadman took charge in June 2025, succeeding Chris Thorman, and overseen a dramatic turnaround following successive winless seasons. Supported by a partnership with York Knights, Newcastle won 21 of their 24 league matches this season. Thunder chief executive Richie Metcalfe praised Steadman for his dedication, noting that he leaves the club in a significantly stronger position.
