Four years after failing to steer the Kiwis past Australia in the 2022 World Cup semi-final, Jahrome Hughes still carries the weight of that loss.
New Zealand halfback Jahrome Hughes says his regret over a missed opportunity in the 2022 World Cup semi-final is driving his desire for revenge against Australia. Hughes cited a critical 73rd-minute kick that failed to yield a try during their 16-14 loss in Leeds as motivation ahead of Thursday night's World Cup opener in Sydney.
The tournament marks the 32-year-old Melbourne Storm star's return to test rugby league after missing two years due to injuries. Hughes will play under coach Stacey Jones, while Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters considers halfback options including Mitch Moses, Tom Dearden, and Sam Walker.
