The NRL will allow players to challenge the market value ascribed to them by head office, in a development that could put Raiders star’s move to the expansion club back on the table.
The NRL will allow players to challenge their designated market value under exceptional circumstances, potentially reviving the PNG Chiefs' pursuit of Canberra Raiders star Hudson Young. The Chiefs previously withdrew their $900,000 per season offer after the NRL set Young's notional salary cap value at $1.1 million, which was later lowered to $1 million by the salary cap auditor.
NRL executive chairman Peter V'landys confirmed the governing body would accept submissions from players seeking to challenge official valuations. RLPA boss Clint Newton indicated that Young and manager Sam Ayoub are weighing whether to submit a formal challenge to clear the move to the expansion club.
