Rugby league is a fast, full-contact sport played between two teams of 13 players. Each team gets six tackles to move the ball up the field before it must hand possession to the other side.
The biggest club competitions are the NRL in Australia and New Zealand and Super League in England and France. State of Origin, between Queensland and New South Wales, is one of the most-watched events in the sport.
A try is worth 4 points and a conversion is worth 2. A penalty goal is worth 2 points and a drop goal is usually worth 1. In the NRL, a field goal kicked from 40 metres or more is worth 2.
A team in possession has six tackles to score or gain ground. After the sixth tackle, possession passes to the other team, which is why teams often kick on the last tackle.
