St Helens have appointed club legend Alan Hunte as the new head coach of their women's rugby league team. The 56-year-old takes over from joint-head coaches Craig Richards and Derek Hardman, who are stepping down from their positions. Hunte scored 189 tries in 244 matches for the club between 1989 and 1997, winning the Super League, Premiership, and Challenge Cup.
Following his playing career, Hunte coached at Salford Red Devils and within the England player development pathway. He takes charge of a St Helens women's team that won four straight Women's Challenge Cups from 2021 to 2024 but finished fourth in the regular season last year, marking their lowest finish since 2017.
