Key Things to Know
  • London Broncos agreed to forfeit about £1.3m in central funding to enter Super League in 2027.
  • The Rugby Football League is expected to imminently ratify London's elevation to a 15-team league.
  • A major partnership between Super League and the NRL has been delayed until 2028.
The Story in 60 Seconds

London Broncos have agreed to forfeit approximately £1.3m in central distribution funding to secure entry into Super League in 2027. The Rugby Football League is expected to imminently ratify the club's elevation as the competition prepares to expand to 15 teams. Existing top-flight clubs agreed to include London provided the Broncos accepted zero central distribution money.

A proposed partnership between Super League and Australia's NRL has been pushed back to 2028, but existing clubs anticipate the NRL will demand a London presence. The Broncos accepted the stringent terms partly over concerns of losing top playing talent if they remained in the Championship.
