Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell revealed members of his playing squad were in shock following their stunning Super League Grand Final victory, two years on from playing in England's second tier.

Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell praised his team's "phenomenal, immense" achievement following a 23-10 victory over Warrington Wolves in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday. The triumph secured Wakefield's first league title in 58 years and their maiden Super League trophy, making them only the sixth club to win the competition. The historic victory arrived just two years after the club was relegated from the top flight.
Powell described the triumph as the finest achievement of his coaching career, particularly after being dismissed by opponents Warrington in 2023. Backed by owner Matt Ellis, Wakefield reached the final after defeating Wigan Warriors 33-6 in the semi-finals. Winger Tom Johnstone received the Rob Burrow Award, while fullback Max Jowitt marked his final appearance for the club with the championship win.
