The Rugby Football League reportedly made a bizarre funding request to the NRL as part of a deal for them to invest in Super League..

The Rugby Football League reportedly made a demand for unlimited funding from the NRL during investment negotiations, creating a key sticking point. The Australian Rugby League Commission flatly rejected the proposal, which was reportedly pursued without the knowledge of Super League club owners. Despite the unusual request, negotiations are now accelerating toward a resolution with the funding demand removed.
A partnership agreement between the NRL and Super League could be announced soon, with the primary investment set to begin in 2028. Early involvement is planned for 2027, including securing a DAZN broadcast deal to televise four Super League matches each weekend.
