Liam Watts will play on at Goole Vikings, penning a new deal and declaring 2027 will ’almost definitely’ be his last season before retiring.

Veteran forward Liam Watts has signed a contract extension with Championship club Goole Vikings to play on through the 2027 season. The 36-year-old front-rower announced that the upcoming campaign will almost definitely mark his final year of professional rugby league. Watts joined Goole ahead of the 2026 season, making 24 appearances and scoring eight tries across all competitions.
Watts boasts 411 career appearances, having previously played in the Super League for Castleford Tigers, Hull KR, and Hull FC, where he won two Challenge Cups. Goole head coach Brett Ferres, who recently transitioned from playing to coaching to replace Scott Taylor, emphasized that Watts will remain a pivotal pack leader and mentor for the club's younger players in 2027.
