They’re one win from a maiden Grand Final win, and they have one big decision last year to thank for it all.

Matthew Shaw writes that Warrington Wolves' internal review of head coach Sam Burgess has paved the way for Grand Final success just one year later. After finishing eighth last season amid various off-field controversies, the club chose to back Burgess rather than dismiss him, and Warrington has now reached their first Grand Final since 2018 as they seek a first league championship since 1955.
Shaw credits the boardroom's loyalty and Burgess' willingness to develop young talent, such as teenager Ewan Irwin, for the remarkable turnaround. Across his three seasons in charge, Burgess has guided the Wire to two third-place finishes and two Challenge Cup Finals, with Shaw arguing that the decision to retain him could prove to be the sport's most productive review.
