Nick Mallett argues that Rassie Erasmus wouldn’t have risked overhauling the Springbok starting XV for Sunday’s defeat in Perth had it been a more important game.

Former South Africa coach Nick Mallett criticized Rassie Erasmus's squad rotation following the Springboks' 42-38 defeat to the Wallabies in Perth. Erasmus made 13 changes to the starting lineup after winning the series against New Zealand, trailing 42-17 before an Australian disciplinary lapse allowed a late comeback.
Speaking on the Talking Boks podcast, Mallett argued that the best lineup was on the replacements bench. He highlighted that key players such as Ox Nché, Malcolm Marx, and Eben Etzebeth were sorely missed against an unbeaten Australian side managed by Les Kiss.
