The 2026/27 Investec Champions Cup launches in record-breaking opening weekend…

The 2026-27 Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup recorded a record-breaking start to the season, drawing 253,000 stadium spectators across the opening round. This attendance represents a 24% increase compared to the corresponding round last season. In addition, French television generated an aggregate audience of 3.5 million viewers, while social media followings rose by 13.9% across tournament channels.
Despite overall commercial growth, home fixtures in South Africa saw modest turnouts, with the Stormers attracting about 6,500 fans and the Bulls drawing 9,600. Commentators Mark Keohane and Zelim Nel cited economic factors and holiday financial constraints as primary causes. EPCR also confirmed record ticket demand for the May 2027 finals weekend in Lyon, with 70,000 tickets already sold.
