Pictures show the injuries to the Wales rugby winger, who is calling on rugby authorities to act now

Wales international Louis Rees-Zammit shared images on Instagram displaying severe burns on his leg, demanding an end to playing professional rugby on artificial surfaces. Rees-Zammit urged authorities to take action against synthetic pitches, adding his voice to a growing player welfare debate across the sport.
The intervention coincides with Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam resting Pedro Rubiolo, AJ MacGinty, and Steven Luatua due to artificial turf concerns. A December 2024 British Journal of Sports Medicine study noted match knee injuries were 44 percent higher on synthetic grass compared to natural turf.
