Phil Dowson confirmed Alex Mitchell suffered a hamstring injury during Northampton’s 28-14 win against Gloucester on Saturday evening.

Northampton Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson has confirmed that scrum-half Alex Mitchell suffered a hamstring injury during their 28-14 victory over Gloucester. Mitchell was forced off in the 21st minute at Franklin's Gardens, raising concerns about his availability for England's upcoming Nations Championship match against Australia.
Dowson admitted the club does not yet know the severity of the injury but stated they must be cautious, noting Mitchell had already suffered three separate hamstring issues in 2026. Northampton also managed the win without injured duo Fin Smith and Archie McParland, who are dealing with calf problems.
