Rennie told media in Auckland on Tuesday that Tuipulotu has just started to run, but has not got through any contact work post South African tour.

All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie has outlined adjustments to player load management following a surge in calf injuries during the 2026 season. Speaking in Auckland on Tuesday, Rennie confirmed that the coaching staff is carefully reviewing training workloads for squad members transitioning back into camp after time away. Several key players have been affected by calf issues, including Patrick Tuipulotu, Jordie Barrett, Richie Mo'unga, and Samisoni Taukei'aho.
Taukei'aho will miss the remainder of the 2026 international season after suffering an injury against Australia, while Tuipulotu was ruled out of the Nations Championship finals after limited recovery post-South Africa. Rennie emphasized that while collision-based injuries are unavoidable and training intensity must remain high for Test rugby, the team is tracking GPS data closely to pinpoint why five or six players suffered calf strains.
