The Sharks announced that they have mutually agreed to terminate Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi's playing contract with immediate effect. Sharks CEO Shaun Bryans confirmed the amicable departure, thanking the Rugby World Cup winner for his contributions in Durban while highlighting the club's focus under Head Coach JP Pietersen.
Following the announcement, the Stormers confirmed Mbonambi's return to the Cape Town franchise, where he previously played between 2015 and 2021. Facing an injury and suspension crisis at hooker, Director of Rugby John Dobson noted Mbonambi is immediately available to face Ulster on Saturday.
