Toulouse flanker Jack Willis has become eligible to switch his international allegiance to Ireland after completing World Rugby's required three-year stand-down period. The 29-year-old won the last of his 14 England caps against Chile at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Willis qualifies to represent Andy Farrell's side through his grandfather, who was born in Northern Ireland, ahead of the next Rugby World Cup.
Despite meeting World Rugby's criteria, a potential switch faces hurdles due to the IRFU's overseas selection policy. Willis is under contract with French club Toulouse until 2029, whereas Ireland typically selects players who feature for the four home provinces. Willis acknowledged his desire to play international rugby again while recognizing the difficulties imposed by existing selection rules.
