There was plenty to cheer about from a Welsh rugby perspective this weekend…

Steffan Thomas argues that omitted Wales players Joe Roberts and Freddie Thomas proved Steve Tandy wrong with standout weekend displays. Roberts scored a hat-trick for Scarlets in their 52-40 loss to the Stormers, while Thomas delivered an all-action try-scoring performance in Gloucester's 23-5 win over Bath alongside a dominant Jac Morgan.
Elsewhere, Ospreys marked their return to a redeveloped St Helen's ground with a 31-14 victory over the Dragons, highlighted by two tries from scrum-half Reuben Morgan-Williams. However, persistent lineout struggles hindered Cardiff against the Sharks, while scrum issues undermined Scarlets in Cape Town.
