World number 56 Arthur Gea defeated Ben Shelton in the third round of the Shanghai Masters, winning 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3). The victory marked the first top-ten win of the Frenchman's career following a tight match that lasted over two hours. Shelton was playing in his first tour-level event since reaching the US Open final.
Gea reflected positively on his performance, emphasizing that his daily preparation and focus on returning Shelton's serve were keys to the upset. Despite the defeat, Shelton had already qualified for the season-ending ATP Finals alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
