Iga Swiatek admitted she was "really pissed" and "angry" while trailing against Donna Vekic at the China Open before mounting a dramatic comeback victory in Beijing. Vekic led 6-4, 5-2 and was just one game away from winning, but Swiatek rallied in the two-hour, 40-minute match, winning the second-set tie-break 7-0 and advancing to the next round.
Swiatek explained that playing more bravely, aggressively, and hitting down the line altered the match's rhythm. The Polish star praised Vekic after securing her 147th career WTA 1000-level match win. With the victory, Swiatek advanced to face American 10th seed Iva Jovic.
