Novak Djokovic's bid to qualify for the ATP Finals suffered a setback after a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Hubert Hurkacz at the Shanghai Masters. The early defeat earned him only 10 Race to Turin points and allowed Alex de Minaur to surpass him in the standings. Djokovic now sits in 10th place, though ninth place may secure a berth due to Jannik Sinner withdrawing with a knee injury.
Djokovic intends to play only the Paris Masters before the season-ending championship, leaving little room for error as rivals Rafael Jodar and Taylor Fritz continue to chase him. The Serb admitted fatigue contributed to his Shanghai performance, coming immediately after he won his 102nd career title at the China Open in Beijing.
