The Italian tennis star announced his decision on Instagram on Saturday, expressing regret that he will not be able to compete in front of the fans in Shanghai next week as he continues his recovery.
Sinner has been sidelined since defeating Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final. He previously withdrew from both the US Open and his China Open title defense in Beijing due to his right knee injury, stating that he is not yet ready to compete.
