Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed he regrets not pushing harder to play in Glasgow when he was linked with a move to Celtic late in his playing career. Speaking to Open Goal, Gerrard admitted that in hindsight, he would have loved to play in an Old Firm match as a player, although he noted that the reported interest from Celtic never became concrete.
The links emerged in late 2016 when Gerrard announced his departure from MLS club LA Galaxy while former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was in charge at Celtic. Gerrard ultimately retired from playing in November 2016 without pursuing the move, but his perspective shifted after he later arrived in Scotland as Rangers manager in 2018.
