The Dallas Cowboys defense ranks dead last in nearly every meaningful metric through five games. Now Jerry Jones has revealed a change that feels awfully familiar from 2025.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced on Tuesday that defensive coordinator Christian Parker will move from the sideline to the coaches' booth on game days. The adjustment comes just five games into the season with Dallas ranking last across multiple defensive metrics, including EPA per play and success rate. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer also confirmed the team hired Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant to support Parker.
A to Z Sports writer Mauricio Rodriguez argues that relocating Parker to the booth this early sends a worrying signal about the front office's confidence in him. Rodriguez notes the change mirrors a similar late-season booth shift made in 2025 with former coordinator Matt Eberflus before his departure, suggesting the decision appears to be shaking things up for the sake of it.
