The Portland Trail Blazers have fired newly appointed play-by-play announcer Braiden Bell following the emergence of offensive social media posts. The decision came on Thursday night after racist and sexist tweets Bell posted in 2012 and 2013 resurfaced online. Bell was dismissed on the same day he had originally been hired for the broadcasting position.
Bell was formerly the announcer for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury before accepting the position with Portland. The Blazers were seeking a replacement after longtime play-by-play voice Kevin Calabro departed the franchise earlier this season to join the Minnesota Timberwolves.
