Filip Hrgovic is now the reigning IBF heavyweight world champion following his shock win against Moses Itauma in August. Now, ‘El Animal’ is set for a first defence and it looks that it’s going to take place in his homeland…

IBF heavyweight world champion Filip Hrgovic is set to make his first title defense in Croatia against Frank Sanchez. Promoter Frank Warren confirmed that Sanchez is the targeted mandatory opponent following a prior step-aside agreement. The bout is targeted to take place in either December or January.
Hrgovic captured the title with a ninth-round stoppage victory over Moses Itauma in August. While Sanchez expressed confidence in becoming the first Cuban heavyweight champion, the specific Croatian venue remains unconfirmed as Zagreb's Kranjčevićeva Stadium will not be ready until March.
