Tavares collapsed to the ice after Sabres forward Josh Norris slid into his legs early in the third period.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares exited Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss against the Buffalo Sabres due to an injury early in the third period. Tavares went down after Sabres forward Josh Norris slid into his legs, remaining on the ice for several moments before skating off with help from teammate Jake McCabe. Toronto head coach Jim Hiller offered no postgame update on the forward's condition.
Prior to his exit, the 36-year-old had recorded two assists while skating at left wing alongside Nick Paul and Kirill Marchenko. The performance brought Tavares to seven points through seven games on the season. The Maple Leafs are scheduled to continue their homestand against the New York Islanders on Saturday.
