Zion Williamson smiled politely, but kept his answer brief when asked how he would summarize his first seven years as an NBA player, saying "I'm not where I need to be."

Entering his eighth NBA season, Zion Williamson stated at media day that his career is not where he wants or needs it to be with the New Orleans Pelicans. Williamson has missed 278 career games due to injuries and fitness struggles, but Pelicans basketball operations chief Joe Dumars reported that the forward arrived at training camp in impeccable physical condition.
Listed at 277 pounds after dropping seven pounds, Williamson worked during the offseason to diversify his game and build confidence as a perimeter shooter. Williamson and Dumars have also agreed to put contract extension discussions on hold to prioritize team success following New Orleans' 26-56 season.
