One of the world's most prestigious stadiums is set for demolition.

The iconic San Siro is set to be demolished and replaced with a smaller modern stadium ahead of the 2032 European Championship. Demolition of the historic venue is reported to begin in the second half of 2027, following municipal procedures expected to conclude by that summer. The new arena will serve as a centerpiece venue for the tournament, which Italy is co-hosting with Turkey.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the new venue will hold 71,500 spectators, down from the current 80,000 capacity, with over 13,000 seats allocated for hospitality to boost revenue for AC Milan and Inter Milan. Designed by Foster+Partners and Manica, the stadium renderings are expected later this month, prompting Milan mayor Beppe Sala to urge clubs to quickly guarantee completion ahead of UEFA deadlines.
