The FIA has significantly tightened the rules governing how Formula 1 teams share staff, facilities and information with other divisions of their parent companies from 2027. Stricter FIA Rules Target Shared Staff, Facilities and Data The newly published operational regulations…

The FIA has introduced stricter operational regulations for the 2027 Formula 1 season to control how teams share personnel, facilities, and data with non-F1 parent divisions. Designed to prevent organizations from bypassing the budget cap, the rules impose strict IT and physical divisions, specifically impacting manufacturer-backed operations involved in projects like Formula E, WEC, and commercial automotive development.
Under the updated rules, staff transfers between F1 and non-F1 roles will face strict cooling-off periods, including a minimum 12-month requirement when departing F1. Additionally, the FIA confirmed that standard Grand Prix race distances will temporarily decrease from 305km to 290km in 2027 before returning to 305km in 2028.
