The Story in 60 Seconds

Former striker Dion Dublin revealed he rejected offers from Chelsea and Everton to complete a £1million permanent transfer to Manchester United from Cambridge United. Speaking on the In The Mixer podcast, Dublin explained that Chelsea manager Ian Porterfield offered him the number nine shirt and Everton manager Howard Kendall also met with him before Sir Alex Ferguson convinced him to sign at Old Trafford.

Dublin admitted he agreed to the transfer without knowing his initial wage, which was £2,500 per week. After making only 17 appearances for Manchester United due to a severe leg injury and the arrival of Eric Cantona, Dublin left for Coventry City in 1994, later playing for Aston Villa.
