Former Lakers guard Kobe Bufkin faces an uncertain future after his Pelicans release, with a G League return or overseas move possible.

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bufkin faces an uncertain future after being waived by the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of the 2026-27 regular season. The 23-year-old guard had joined New Orleans on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract after playing in the Summer League, aiming to secure the team's final roster spot before his release.
Bufkin, originally selected 15th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, could return to the G League or pursue potential international opportunities. The Lakers' affiliate, Coachella Valley, holds his returning player rights, and Bufkin also remains eligible for a two-way contract for the upcoming campaign.
