Bronny James faces growing pressure after a rough preseason as the Lakers prepare for a crucial roster decision.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James faces increased scrutiny amid poor preseason performances as the franchise prepares for regular-season roster cuts. Through four preseason contests, the 22-year-old is averaging 2.8 points and 3.3 assists while committing 12 turnovers and shooting 26.7 percent from the field. Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged James' struggles but noted that backcourt opportunities remain open alongside Jaden Hardy and Chris Mañon whenever lead guards are unavailable.
The Lakers currently hold 16 guaranteed standard contracts and must trim the roster to the NBA limit of 15 players via trade or waiver before opening night. Team president Rob Pelinka faces key personnel decisions regarding the team's reserves, including James, who holds a guaranteed $2.3 million salary for the 2026-27 season.
