The Toronto Maple Leafs could have traded for a David Kampf clone, with the organization banking on Aatu Raty's upside.

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired center Aatu Raty in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr. Heavy writer Nestor Quixtan argues that Toronto may have landed a younger version of defensive forward David Kampf, noting Raty brings defensive reliability, penalty-killing capability, and strong faceoff skills to the organization.
Raty carries an $850,000 cap hit through the 2026-27 season and is initially expected to report to the AHL's Toronto Marlies. However, Quixtan notes that an injury to forward John Tavares could potentially open the door for Raty to earn NHL ice time sooner than expected.
