James Wiseman emerging as frontrunner for Knicks roster spot

James Wiseman has emerged as the leading candidate to secure the New York Knicks' 14th and likely final standard roster spot, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. The Knicks are reportedly prioritizing a center for the position, though the roster spot must still be earned during the preseason. Wiseman has reportedly performed well in training camp as he seeks a return to regular NBA action.

The former No. 2 overall pick has played in just five games across the last two seasons following an Achilles tear in October 2024. Wiseman faces competition from Tony Bradley, Drew Eubanks, Bruce Brown, and Ochai Agbaji, who are all attending training camp on Exhibit 9 deals as New York seeks to stay under the second tax apron.
